Biden on Sunday has just rescinded his previous stance on the 15,000 refugee cap that was currently in place. He wanted to keep it for now, but ran into lots of push-back from Congress on the matter.
According to Fox News, Biden then promised to lift the cap by May 15, saying "We couldn’t do two things at once. But now we are going to increase the number."
"One of the biggest problems we faced was inheriting a broken system. And the refugee system that we found was not in a place, did not have the resources, the means to effectively process as many people as we hoped," said Blinken, again blaming the previous administration for the current refugee crisis.
"I think what the president has and the White House has said today is that based on what we've now seen from in terms of the inheritance and being able to look at what was in place, what we could put in place, how quickly we could put it in place, it's going to be very hard to meet the sixty two thousand this fiscal year," Blinken continued.
Blinken then mentioned that they may have to revise their lofty goals and come up with something more realistic soon:
"But we're going to be revisiting this over the coming weeks. I think there'll be an additional directive coming out in the middle of May."
