Northern Ontario is currently under a winter storm and snowfall warning from Environment Canada as parts of the region see up to 35cm of snow on Monday. The snow is accompanied by wind gusts up to 60km/h and is impacting travel on highways 11 and 17. Northern Ontario is expected to see some relief as the system moves south towards Toronto.
The snow is set to start for Toronto overnight Tuesday and continue during the day Wednesday with temperatures slightly below zero. The snow will be the result of two weather systems entering the region from Northern Ontario and from the United States.
Winter storms this late in the season are unusual for Toronto especially with the recent warm weather. The weather in Toronto for Monday shows a high of 15°C and sunny, continuing a trend of spring-like weather.
The temperatures will remain cold for Wednesday and Thursday but return to spring-like conditions for the weekend with temperatures in the teens. The cold weather system will continue east and eventually reach Eastern Ontario and Southern Quebec to bring snow and cold across Southern Canada. There has yet to be any weather statement from Environment Canada regarding the possible snow.
