Superman actor slams decision to make the character bisexual: ‘They’re bandwagoning’

Yesterday, news broke that the new Superman, character Clark Kent's son, is going to be bisexual in a comic coming out next month. Jon Kent as a concept was first introduced as Clark Kent's son back in 2015. But then, he was Superboy. It's with "Superman: Son of Kal-El" that he takes up the Superman mantle.

As far as it's known about the plot, Jon Kent becomes friendly with reporter Jay Nakamura before becoming more-than-friendly in next month's issue.

But not all Supermen are enthusiastic about the news. Cain played Superman in the 1990s series "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman."

Cain shared his feelings about the matter in a Fox & Friends interview on Tuesday. By that meaning he wasn't shocked whatsoever.

"I don't think it's bold or brave or some crazy new direction. If they had done this 20 years ago, perhaps that would be bold or brave. But brave would be having him fight for the rights of gay people in Iran where they'll throw you off a building for the offense of being gay," the actor said.

Cain made note of how difficult it is to keep track of the current storyline multiverse of DC Comics. He also put forward his own ideas on how to better modernize the character for the current era.

"Why don't they have him fight the injustices that created the refugees whose deportation he's protesting? That would be brave, I'd read that. Or fighting for the rights of women to attend school and work and live and boys not to be raped by men under the new warm and fuzzy Taliban," the actor added.

Comic book fans live in a "woke" age where rumors about Marvel Studios dropping "Men" from the X-Men name seem possible.
