Teen charged with murder of Coast Guard pilot was arrested with murder weapon, then released without bail in WA

Isaiah Altre Bolar has been charged with second-degree murder in the August 23 shooting death of 29-year-old Coast Guard Lt. Connor Scott Overstreet in Skyway. Bolar pleaded not guilty during his October 7 arraignment and remains held on $3 million bail.

Overstreet, a newlywed and Coast Guard rescue helicopter pilot assigned to Air Station Ventura in California, was in Washington for work and training when he was killed.

According to charging documents obtained by The Ari Hoffman Show, Overstreet was riding Lime scooters with two friends shortly before 12:45 am near South 124th Street and South Langston Road

when occupants of a passing Toyota Prius began yelling at them. After an exchange of words, the Prius made a U-turn and stopped. Overstreet approached the passenger-side window and leaned toward the vehicle.

One of his friends told investigators he saw a muzzle flash as someone inside the Prius fired a single shot, striking Overstreet in the chest.

The vehicle sped away. Overstreet was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy determined the bullet struck his lungs and an artery.

Two days later, on August 25, Kent police attempted to stop a Prius that had been reported stolen during a May 2026 armed robbery investigated by Seattle police. Bolar, who was driving, allegedly fled at high speed, forcing officers to deploy a spike strip to stop the vehicle.

During the pursuit, prosecutors allege Bolar shoved a backpack into his passenger's chest and told him, "Take this." The passenger discarded the backpack in a trash can. Inside, officers discovered a Ruger .357 revolver containing five live cartridges and one empty chamber. A subsequent search of the backpack also uncovered Bolar's temporary driver's permit, a balaclava, Lysol wipes, and a family photograph.

Despite the arrest and recovery of the firearm, Bolar was released from custody on August 26 without posting bail.

According to FOX 13, King County prosecutors requested $20,000 bail for the attempting-to-elude allegation, but the court released Bolar on personal recognizance. Prosecutors said they had not been informed by investigators at the time that Bolar was potentially connected to Overstreet's murder. King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office spokesperson Casey McNerthney told local media that prosecutors would have sought higher bail had they known of the possible homicide connection.

Bolar was subsequently charged with attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle on September 2 and pleaded not guilty.

Detectives connected the Prius to the fatal shooting through surveillance footage showing the vehicle's distinctive lighting and wheel rims. Cellphone records also placed a phone associated with Bolar in the immediate vicinity of the shooting at approximately 12:42 am. Investigators said the phone's movements matched the route taken by the suspect vehicle before returning toward Bolar's Covington residence.

On September 28, the Washington State Patrol Crime Laboratory reported that the bullet and jacket fragment recovered from Overstreet's body had been fired from the Ruger revolver recovered during Bolar's August arrest. The finding established a forensic connection between the firearm and the fatal shooting, more than a month after Bolar had been released from custody.

Bolar was arrested again on October 1 and charged with second-degree murder with a firearm enhancement the following day.

Prosecutors have not established whether Bolar personally fired the fatal shot or assisted another person. They allege he either shot Overstreet or participated in the killing.

In requesting $3 million bail, prosecutors described Overstreet as an unarmed man who approached the vehicle hoping to peacefully resolve a minor argument. They argued that Bolar's alleged involvement in the killing, subsequent high-speed flight from police, and attempt to dispose of evidence demonstrate that he poses a serious threat to public safety. If convicted, Bolar faces approximately 16 to more than 24 years in prison, including a five-year firearm enhancement.

Detectives identified Isaiah Bolar as the younger brother of ‘Yourhighness’ Jeremiah Bolar, who was convicted of second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm in January 2024.
