The View’s Sarah Haines slams Patrick Clancy for leaving his ‘sick’ wife Lindsay after she killed their children

Lindsay Clancy was charged with the murder of her three children and pled not guilty by reason of insanity, admitting that she killed her children. Her husband was the one who found Clancy after her alleged attempted suicide on the lawn after she sliced her neck, arms, and jumped from a second-floor window, and their three children, strangled with exercise bands in the basement of their Duxbury, MA home. She claimed in court that she had suffered from postpartum psychosis.

"What bothers me," Haines said, "is he talks about forgiving her, which I love, but he focuses on that and never jumps to what so many people struggle with. How did the marital love end so quickly when you admit openly your wife got sick? She got sick." Many people on social media responded with comments saying that it probably ended at the time she killed his three children.

"It doesn't mean you can be with him, and it doesn't mean it doesn't remind you of the worst day of your life," Haines went on. "But I would hope—and like in sickness and in health, he said everyone was worried about her, they were tragically, their arms were around her as she was going down the drain—I would hope that my husband wouldn't just sit there and just move right along."

"Does it bother you that he's remarried now?" Panelist Sunny Hostin asked.

"No," Haines replied. "I can't pretend to know timelines or like when you meet someone or some people need love and they need to fill themselves again. I'm not shaming him on any of that. I just don't know why we skip straight to skipping all the marital things. Did he, when they talked in prison and she didn't ask for forgiveness, is that when he served her papers?"

Alyssa Farah Griffin jumped in to say, "So that's what stood out to me too because I felt similarly while watching it to you. But then his admitting she never sought forgiveness—the first thing I would do is, 'what did I do? I am so sorry I took these children's lives."

"Yeah, but she's crazy," said Joy Behar.

Patrick moved to New York after his children were killed because, as he told Douthat, it was a place where he found he could grieve anonymously. He described going to St. Patrick's Cathedral to pray and emerging onto 5th Avenue with tears streaming down his face and no one looking at him one way or another.

It was in New York where he met his new wife, Rachel, at a running club. The two are now expecting their first child. Lindsay's trial ended in a hung jury, which has become its own controversy after it was revealed that one juror would not be swayed to find her not guilty by reason of insanity and that the other jurors came into deliberations with their minds made up. She may face a second trial, and her defense attorney is demanding an investigation into that one holdout, black, Catholic, Republican juror.
