Tennessee vaccine administrators gave doses to family, friends hours after turning away at-risk citizens

The friends and family of Hamilton County health officials in Chattanooga, TN were receiving vaccines at a facility hours after the general public was told that doses have run out. Local authorities are now calling it a "miscalculation."
On Thursday, the vaccine, which first shipped on Dec. 12, was made available to everybody aged 75-years-old or older. This sparked a run on the vaccine, with traffic from that morning on on the way to the vaccination tent at the Tennessee Riverpark in Hamilton Country, which was backed up for miles on the Aminicola Highway.
According to local outlet First On 3, officials said they "didn’t want [people] to continue sitting in their cars and not get the vaccine because supply was limited," said a press release sent Friday afternoon.
"At that point, officials projected there were enough doses for the hundreds of people who were waiting in line inside the park. Those people continued through the park route to the vaccination tent and the last in line left around 4:30 (p.m.)."
However, it turns out that there were hundreds of more doses than expected. First On 3 sent people out to investigate and people told them that friends or family members who were helping to administer the vaccine told them to come out.
