Toronto Business group calls for vaccine passport for ‘non-essential’ activities

"The EU as of July 1st has gone live with the digital pass, and the reason why we’re so pro using that tool is that we’ve worked so hard and our small businesses have gone through multiple lockdowns that have had a devastating affect to them," said De Silva according to the Toronto Star. "Now that we’ve got sufficient vaccine, it’s a way to start resuming a more normal form of day-to-day living."

Although De Silva says getting vaccinated is a personal decision, companies have the "moral responsibility" to stop unvaccinated people from accessing certain venues and services.

"In terms of domestic reflections (of vaccine passports) that’s something the provinces themselves will establish as what is right for them," Justin Trudeau said about vaccine passports.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has said there will be no vaccine passports in Alberta while Quebec and Manitoba are preparing to roll them out. Ontario has remained quiet on the issue and Premier Ford has not announced a decision one way or the other.

Critics have bashed the idea of vaccine passports saying that it would create a two-tier cast system and have called it "medical apartheid." Governors in the United States have began banning vaccine passports like Gov. Ron DeSantis and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
