A Toronto man who broke into a Scarborough bungalow and beat an elderly woman to death in 2015 has been sentenced to "life" for second-degree murder, The Star reports. His parole ineligibility has been set at 15 years and nine months.
In November 2015, Sinbad Marshall broke through Stella Tetsos’ basement window. When the elderly 82-year-old woman went to check on the sound, Marshall proceeded to attack her leaving every rib in her chest broken.
As Stella Tetsos was in her basement dying, Sinbad Marshall, who was on bail for doing a similar robbery back in 2013, was robbing her home and cutting her phone lines. He was later arrested with her jewellery on.
Marshall has been in segregation for more than two years, this led to a decision to drop his parole eligibility by 27 months. The Crown originally requested that Sinbad spend 18 years in prison.
The reason for Marshall being placed in segregation was his conduct in jail. Institutional records obtained by The Star from the Toronto East Detention Centre show he was found guilty of 19 misconducts, including some "involving racial epithets on correctional officers, throwing urine at them, or assaulting other inmates."
Marshall will not be eligible for parole until 2036.
