Toronto mayor says cancellation of fall, winter events including New Year’s to be expected
Gatherings like New Years Eve celebrations at Nathan Phillips square, Remembrance Day ceremonies, the Royal Winter Fair and the Santa Claus Parade are all apart of the events that are expected to be cancelled.
Mayor John Tory told the public to expect the cancellation of events in Toronto that have been scheduled for this fall and winter.
Gatherings like New Years Eve celebrations at Nathan Phillips square, Remembrance Day ceremonies, the Royal Winter Fair and the Santa Claus Parade are all apart of the events that are expected to be cancelled, CP24 reports.
Tory told reporters, "If we're saying to people that large crowd scenes are not good, large gatherings are not good, being in a crowded bar scene after midnight is not good, then it hardly stands to reason that we should be having big celebrations in Nathan Phillips Square and Nuit Blanche and all of those things."
The Toronto mayor said the city is preparing to release more information on what events may be cancelled and will make an announcement related to the festivities soon.
Tory has recently went public in his criticism of Doug Ford's rollout of COVID-19 related policy. "Get on with it," he told reporters.
Tory hopes Ford will release all of the policy related to curbing a second wave of the virus at once, instead of announcing policies day by day.
