Trudeau government unprepared for pandemic despite repeated warnings

Not only did they fail to stockpile useful medical equipment—which they were repeatedly warned to do—but they also receive $675 million from the taxpayer every year to do so.

The President of the Medical Association Dr. Sandy Buchman seemed to confirm as much when she said that "there will be lessons learned, and the first and foremost one is that we were caught flat-footed, that we didn’t have adequate supplies of personal protective equipment available for health care workers, that we have drug shortages."

As well as this, medical professionals across Canada have complained of being unequipped to deal with the coronavirus outbreak. Many doctors do not have access to masks, goggles, face shields and other vital equipment.

"I don’t think we were adequately prepared or we wouldn’t have found ourselves in this situation," said Buchman.

She went on to add that "the rapidity and magnitude of this pandemic wasn’t anticipated, but that’s what you kind of have to prepare for, these crises."

The Trudeau government-led Public Health Agency of Canada has been warned repeatedly that they should prepare for a pandemic. In 2006, the Health Agency warned that a future pandemic was "inevitable."

Similarly, in 2011, the agency was warned to stockpile medical equipment in case of a pandemic. Needless to say, this never happened.
