UAW president Shawn Fain met with the union’s executive board to discuss its next steps should Biden, who they endorsed, lose in the presidential election.

Shawn Fain, president of the United Auto Workers (UAW), met with the union’s executive board this week over concerns that President Joe Biden may not be able to defeat former President Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election. The nearly 400,000-member union, which endorsed Biden in January, is expected to play a crucial role in Biden’s efforts to secure battleground states in the Northeast, including Michigan.
"Donald Trump stands against everything we stand for as a society," Fain said when he endorsed Biden. Despite this endorsement, Fain is now discussing concerns with top union officials about the union’s next steps and options, especially if Biden loses, according to a report by Reuters.

Biden has heavily courted the union, even mentioning Fain in his State of the Union address. He has continued to market himself as the most “pro-union president in US history.” Additionally, Biden met with the executive council of the AFL-CIO, the largest federation of US trade unions, on Wednesday, where Fain was present.
"I think of you as my domestic NATO—not a joke,” Biden said, while also thanking union leaders for pledging their support to his campaign.
The union's concerns over Biden's re-election prospects come amid growing calls from some Democrats for Biden to withdraw from the race and allow someone else to be the nominee. As many as 17 Democratic representatives and senators have publicly suggested that Biden should exit the race.
