The mother was stopped by the police as she was heading westbound on Centre Street near Vaughan Boulevard. Officers have said that the woman was showing signs of being under the influence of alcohol, and that they found open cans of beer in her vehicle.
Police also found a 9-year-old boy in the car, and his seatbelt wasn’t fastened. The woman was heading home, where she had left a three year old child unattended. That child was found in good condition, inside the home.
The mother was taken into custody, after being sent to the district headquarters for a breath test, which we failed. The children were taken to their father and the Children’s Aid Society is now involved with an investigation.
The 32-year-old woman from Thornhill, Ontario is now facing numerous charges including impaired driving, 80 plus, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, criminal negligence, and abandoning a child under 10 years.
In order to protect the identity of the children, York Regional Police has decided to not release the name of the woman.
