The incident occurred on April 4, just before noon, when a man alerted the police that the suspect was inside the bank attempting to steal money. Bank security footage shows the man, later identified as Yeixon Brito-Gonzalez, holding up his phone to the tellers with written demands in English to "get the money" and "put the money in the bag." However, when the tellers ignored his demands, the Venezuelan man left the bank empty-handed, According to Fox8, a local Ohio Fox Affiliate,

According to Sandusky Police Chief Jared Oliver, the Venezuelan man may be in the country illegally. Oliver also expressed astonishment at the facts surrounding the case.

“I have been in law enforcement for over 20 years and this is the first time I encountered something like this, someone using a translator app to try and rob a bank,” Oliver said. “First time our officers have dealt with it too. “

The police later located and detained Brito-Gonzalez, reading him his rights in Spanish.

During questioning, Brito-Gonzalez admitted to recently losing his job and claimed that he had merely asked the bank employees to put money inside a bag, denying any attempted robbery. However, he now faces charges of attempted robbery, attempted theft, and criminal trespassing.

Furthermore, authorities have raised concerns about Brito-Gonzalez's legal status in the country, with customs and border control placing a hold on him for further questioning regarding his immigration status.
