WATCH: Dramatic video shows migrants with young children crossing Rio Grande border

Fox News captured dramatic live footage depicting the flow of people crossing the river in Del Rio, Texas, that forms part of the United States-Mexico border.

An elderly gentleman was helped out of the river at one point, Fox News reported. Multiple children were noticeable in the group. A woman prayed as she trekked across. Several of those gathered wore camping gear to spend the night if need be.

Smugglers send groups across the Rio Grande when the river is low during the morning hours. In the video, young children are hoisted above the current that was at times knee-deep for adults. Clutching babies and backpacks, the crowd trudges across the river on foot, stepping from one small island to another.

The migrant group of about 50 people are from Venezuela, according to what the crowd members told Fox News. About half of the migrants have family in the US.

"You see the steady stream of people coming across the border with Mexico entering our nation without going through a legal checkpoint, without any of those things," narrated The Faulkner Focus anchor Harris Faulkner, noting that viewers also don't see the migrants being COVID-19 tested before entering America either.

Faulkner said there have been instances where Border Patrol agents had to intervene to save migrants. "That water is moving," he added. Border Patrol has been overwhelmed with more than 5,000 apprehensions in the last week.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki blamed the "nature" of the media for being the "big driver" behind talk pushing the border crisis narrative. Psaki commented on The Axe Files with David Axelrod podcast Thursday, arguing that the migrant surge wasn't considered crisis-worthy but rather "a huge challenge."

"We've seen surges at the border," Psaki stated as the White House claims that the border surge is "cyclical" or seasonal. "Every time it happens, it's bad," she said.

The Biden administration has evaded using the term "crisis" to describe the record number of migrants crossing America's southern border, including many unaccompanied children and 172,000 migrant encounters in March alone.
