WATCH: Ted Cruz says we should ‘go after the bad guys’—not take guns from law-abiding citizens
“The Democrats’ proposal, every time is always the same, which is take away guns from law-abiding citizens… It doesn’t work. It doesn’t reduce crime. In fact it makes it worse.”
Speaking to Sean Hannity on Fox News on Tuesday night, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) spoke against the Biden administration's intentions to enact government control by executive order if the Senate doesn't take it up in legislation.
"There have been too damn many of these and we need to stop them," Cruz said of excessive numbers of mass shootings that plague the US. He listed off so many of them, from those in his home state to the most recent one in Colorado on Monday.

"The Democrats' proposal," he said, "every time is always the same, which is take away guns from law-abiding citizens. That is their political agenda every single day. It doesn't work. It doesn't reduce crime. In fact it makes it worse because it disarms the potential victims and makes them vulnerable to criminals.
"If you want to stop them," Cruz said, "the way to do it—what works—is you target the bad guys. You go after violent criminals, you go after felons, you go after fugitives, you go after those with serious mental illness, you stop them from getting guns. And when they try to illegally buy a fire arm from you, lock 'em up and put 'em in jail."
He spoke of the Grassley Cruz legislation that he brought up in Congress in 2013, but that the Democrats refused to pass the law. This, he said, could have put a stop to mass shootings that have occurred since then.
Hannity brought up the crimes that took place over the summer in the name of "peaceful protests," the autonomous zones, the militants, and the riots, saying that Democrats are concerned with allowing crimes that suit their ideological perspective.
Cruz said that firearms are used to stop a criminal in the US "about a million times a year," and said the Second Amendment needs to be protected. Both men agreed that, constitutionally, President Biden does not have the authority to issue Second Amendment-violating gun control orders from the executive desk of the Oval Office.
