WATCH: Trudeau squirms out of question on Liberals taking taxpayer dollars via pandemic benefits

Trudeau announced that the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance Program, which provides forgivable loans to commercial landlords, opened for applications. Landlords with up to 10 eligible tenants can now apply online, so long as you are in BC, the Atlantic, Alberta, or Quebec.

Other provinces will have to wait until tomorrow.

"To landlords: Please apply," pleaded Trudeau, asking store owners to also do their part.

Trudeau also announced that as the country enters the recovery phase of the pandemic, every worker "who needs it" will be entitled to 10 days of sick paid leave a year, saying that other mechanisms were being considered "for longer."

Trudeau said the issue of paid sick leave was first brought up by British Columbian Premier Horgan.

On Friday, it was revealed that the Liberal Party was taking wage subsidy cash from the taxpayer wallet, along with the New Democrats and the Progressive Conservatives.

While addressing why his wealthy political party was taking taxpayer dollars, Trudeau said: "We know families across the countries depend on the jobs they do to pay groceries, pay for the rent... This is going to be an important part of the economy bouncing back, and that's what we're focused on."

Regarding a second wave, Trudeau expressed confidence in being able to handle any possible spike in cases due to the amount of acquired PPE.

"We've been delivering on the needs we see right across the country" said Trudeau, referring to the 40 flights-worth of PPE sent over the past weeks from countries like China.

On Friday, it was announced that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson would be preparing to phase out the use of Huawei's 5G network. Regarding the potential security threat, Trudeau said advice was being taken by intelligence officials "to make sure we're all doing the things necessary to create economic growth for our country while ensuring the safety and security of [Canadians] is tantamount."

Canada is the last of the Five Eyes nations to make the decision to phase out interaction with Huawei in this avenue.
