On Thursday morning, a Windsor police officer on duty shot and killed a family's ten-year-old dog, who was in the family's yard at the time.
The incident happened at 11am, while officers were conducting an investigation on the block on which the family house is located, on Lynngrove Court, in the Forest Glade neighborhood of Windsor.
According to CTV News, police provided no other comment than that the incident was under investigation.
Diane Scott said that police were looking for a friend of her son's, who was indeed at the residence. She let the dog, Chloe, out by the back door so the police officers wouldn't be disturbed by her.
While talking to officers at the front door, there was a gunshot coming from the backyard. It appears that some officers went around the back of the house, in anticipation of a possible escape from the person of interest by the back door.
"They said [the dog] was running toward them and was going to attack one of the officers. She's never attacked anybody, she's always a friendly dog. She just wants to run up to you and say hi ..."
"Because she was running up toward you doesn't mean you have to shoot and kill her."
