Windsor woman charged with manslaughter after man dies of fentanyl overdose

Sergeant Steve Betteridge noted that this is the first time someone who allegedly provided the drugs that caused an overdose has been charged by Windsor Police Service.

Police found the man dead after responding to a call about a month ago according to CBC News.

Investigators believe the man died due to a fentanyl overdose.

After police looked over security footage, executed search warrants and interviewed people related to the case—they identified the person responsible for giving the man the fatal drug.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested by police on March 20.

When speaking with iheartradio, Betteridge said, “Every sudden death is investigated, in this case it turned out that we believed there was a criminal aspect involved and our job is to have the offender arrested and charged and that's exactly what we've done.”

"I think all of our community understands a manslaughter charge is a very serious charge; coupled with the fact that this is connected to drug trafficking and the opioid crisis," he added

The woman has been charged with manslaughter, failure to comply with a release order, and trafficking a controlled substance.
