Rehab Dughmosh, the woman who attacked workers at a Toronto-area Canadian tire with a golf club and butcher's knife was found guilty of terror charges and has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
She originally faced 21 charges, including attempted murder of at least three people for the benefit of or in association with a terrorist group.
The judge sentenced Rehab Dughmosh today in Toronto for the June 2017 attack.
Rehab Dughmosh was found guilty of four terrorism-related charges and had also previously tried to travel to Syria to join ISIL.
The Crown was seeking an eight-year sentence, due to mental health issues Dugmosh suffers from, as well as the lack of long-term damage from her attack.
According to court documentation, Dugmosh refused to enter a plea agreement.
During the trial, Superior Court Justice Maureen Forestell read aloud the statement of facts to the jury and asked Dugmosh if these events occurred, to which she responded, "yes."
The amount of evidence combined with Dugmosh's confirmation of the terrorist attack and committed crimes made for an interesting yet relatively swift trial.
