Yellow Vest Canada’s Facebook page temporarily deleted after PM Trudeau’s life threatened

The Canadian Yellow Vests were far from free of any controversy. Just yesterday, Facebook started removing comments from Yellow Vest Canada’s group, following talk of killing our Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.

Facebook had taken action because the content violated its community standards. It appears as though Facebook had decided to remove the group all together, though it appears the group has now been restored.

The Yellow Vests have also been on the radar of several news groups across Canada. There have been several reports of far-right activists and extreme thinkers latching on to the group.

The Yellow Vests were always under a watchful eye from the media, as members were also suspected of xenophobia, Islamophobia, and other types of general hate.

Of course, these are claims that the Yellow Vests adamantly refuted, as the Yellow Vests claim they are a multi-ethnic, multi-racial, multi-faith, and multicultural group.

The Yellow Vests page is, at the very least, not for the light of heart. As different groups of Canadians rally around different issues that affect them on personal levels, tempers flare, and things are said that sometimes cross the line.

Threats of Violence Against Trudeau

It can be very easy to dislike political figures. It can be very easy to be carried away, and fall into ideological traps.

The internet can amplify our thoughts to a degree in which we sometimes are not in control. Threatening the life of our Prime Minister, a human being who has a wife and children, is absolutely repulsive. A few of the comments read as followed:

“Why hasn’t anyone shot him yet?”

“Trudeau needs to be shot.”

“Shoot the mother already.”

These types of comments should be against any and every Canadian’s code of ethics, no matter where you fall on the political spectrum.

Validity of the Yellow Vests

We must remember though, these are not the sentiments of the majority of Yellow Vesters. Most are concerned citizens who want to see change in their communities, and do not like the direction see their beloved country going.

And it’s critical to remember that the genuine concerns of worried Canadians should not all be dismissed, just because there were bad apples amongst the bunch.

Most are patriots, strong and free, who love our nation, its accomplishments, and its culture. Most have a passionate voice, who want their government to know that their concerns should not be pushed to the side. Many have families, and children themselves.

Trudeau's thoughts on the Yellow Vests

Administrators of the page warned commenters to watch their language. One is reported saying in a statement to Global News that they “do not tolerate this kind of talk, and it needs to be dealt with.”

For a moment, Facebook decided enough was enough and deleted the page. We don't know exactly why, or what happened, but the page is back, and fully operational.

When Trudeau was asked if he thought the conservatives were behind the yellow vest movement, he’s quoted: (Translated from French)

When asked if he thought the Yellow Vest movement will spread to other Canadian cities, he is quoted saying: (Translated from French)

A classic. non-answer from the Prime Minister, but it does paint a picture of his opinions on the people who are currently protesting. It’s fair to say that there feelings of general dislike are mutual.

Only time will be able to tell what’s next for the Yellow Vests of Canada. It’s certainly an interesting topic to follow.

Most yellow vests merely wanted to voice their concerns. But the fringe and the extreme thinkers have nearly hi-jacked the group, and now cast an ugly shadow on the group's reputation.
