‘You work for us!’ Fed-up parents demand school district drop mask mandate after new CDC guidance
Parents in Clark County, Nevada voiced their displeasure with the board’s decision to require masks in classrooms for the remaining twelve days of the current school year.
Parents in Clark County, Nevada, the fifth largest school district in the nation, voiced their displeasure with the board's decision to require masks in classrooms for the remaining twelve days of the current school year.
According to Fox5 Las Vegas, the Clark County School District, CCSD, made their decision "out of an abundance of caution." On Thursday, Nevada stated that it will "no longer require people who have been vaccinated to wear masks in most scenarios" following the Center for Disease Control's recent announcement.
The CCSD Board of Trustees met Thursday night, and despite the fact that masks were not on the agenda, the issue was brought up by numerous parents.
Two parents in particular delivered rather striking testimony against the board's decision to uphold the mask mandate. "It's time we recognize," the first mother began, "that the mask represents a culture of silence, slavery, and social death," adding that the school district, and broader community, must "remove this symbology now!"
The second parent to speak out gave the board an ultimatum. "Drop the mask mandate immediately; anything else will not be accepted." She went on to say that "if the mask mandate is not dropped, [parents] will be back." "Let me remind you," she added, glaring at the board, "you work for us."
As Fox5 reports, "The school district said it would release more guidance on COVID-19 mitigation measures next week."
