A naked woman was found firing a gun near the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge toll plaza on Tuesday.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), police began receiving calls about a woman driving recklessly on eastbound Interstate 80 of the bridge at approximately 4:40 pm.

One caller said that the black woman, who was driving a white Chevrolet sedan, brandished a gun at her and then reported that the woman got out of her car and started yelling at drivers on the freeway.

According to law enforcement, the woman re-entered her car, then stopped the vehicle again in the eastbound lanes, past the toll plaza, and used her vehicle to block multiple lanes of I-80. She then was experiencing what authorities called a "mental health crisis," exited the car completely naked.

The woman also began firing a gun randomly; luckily no injuries were reported although multiple vehicles were struck by bullets.

Officers confronted the woman and told her to drop the weapon. She initially refused, but eventually complied after officers used de-escalation techniques. She was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment and evaluation. Once the mental health hold has concluded, CHP officers will take her into custody for the criminal charges associated with the incident.

According to CHP, there was severe traffic on the Bay Bridge as a result of the incident and subsequent investigation. All lanes of eastbound I-80 were closed between the toll plaza and the I-880 interchange at approximately 5:28 PM to allow officers to conduct a crime scene investigation.

The main traffic lanes were reopened at approximately 5:41 PM, however, the I-880 transition ramp remained closed for another 30 minutes as officers processed evidence and removed the suspect's vehicle from the scene.
