In a statement released today by the New York Young Republicans Club (NYYRC), the group slammed the ten Republicans who voted for a sweeping gun reform bill, calling them "sellouts" and "cowards."

The organization said NY Representative Nicole Malliotakis has "shown herself to have poor character and commitment to America First values."

Malliotakis joined three other New York Republicans, and ten Republican representatives in total, in breaking party rank to vote yes on HR 7910, or the "Protecting Our Kids Act."

This sweeping legislation will increase the age limit on the purchase of semi automatic rifles, prevent gun trafficking, modernize the prohibition on untraceable firearms, encourage firearm safe storage, amongst other provisions.

Executive Secretary of the NYYRC Viswanag B. Burra, who is a native Staten Islander, told The Post Millennial, "the people of Staten Island and Bay Ridge had already gotten used to Rep. Nicole Malliotakis betrayals. Unfortunately, now the rest of America gets to experience what it feels like to be stabbed in the back by a cowardly RINO as she votes to strip Americans of their inalienable rights.

"She entered Congress with a promise to create a 'Freedom Squad' to fight AOC and Ilhan Omar. Now that Freedom Squad is stripping away freedoms by voting with AOC and Ilhan Omar," he added.

At the state level, Governor Kathy Hochul signed similar legislation into law last week, which sets the age limit for purchasing semi automatic rifles at 21, and also -prevents citizens from purchasing body armor and bullet proof vests.

Burra wrote on Twitter, "in true cowardly RINO fashion, @NMalliotakis has resorted to blaming the NYPD for her awful vote to strip away your inalienable and ancient right to defend yourself."

Burra told The Post Millennial, "the people of Staten Island and Bay Ridge had already gotten used to Rep. Nicole Malliotakis betrayals. Unfortunately, now the rest of America gets to experience what it feels like to be stabbed in the back by a cowardly RINO as she votes to strip Americans of their inalienable rights. She entered Congress with a promise to create a 'Freedom Squad' to fight AOC and Ilhan Omar. Now that Freedom Squad is stripping away freedoms by voting with AOC and Ilhan Omar."

Burra highlighted a quote from Malliotakis in which she said she made the decision to vote for the sweeping gun legislation "after consulting with the NYPD and reviewing the impact of the individual pieces of legislation on my constituents."

In a statement, the NYYRC pointed out that "three out of four New Yorkers feel as if they could become a victim of a crime; New York City has some of the strictest gun laws in the country." NYYRC said they "commit to making sure her constituents remember her betrayal of their fundamental rights."

NYYRC continued to write that the solution isn't more restrictive gun laws, but rather, "We also need to punish bad actors harshly and decisively. School and mass shootings are a tragic consequence of a system that enables criminality. We need district attorneys who lock criminals up, and we need stringent school security measures, including armed guards and physical security infrastructure. We do not need restrictions on law-abiding Americans’ fundamental rights."

As the representative for New York’s 11th Congressional District which covers New York's Staten Island, Nicole Malliotakis maintains a website with a prominent "issues" tab. The issues she addresses range from Animal Welfare to the Environment but excludes mention of the 2nd Amendment.

The nine other Republicans who voted for HR 7910 were Reps. Anthony Gonzalez, Michael Turner, Chris Jacobs, John Katko, Chris Smith, Fred Upton, Brian Fitzpatrick, Adam Kinzinger, and Maria Salazar. The NYYRC described the ten Republicans' vote as showing "utter contempt for Americans’ constitutional rights."
