“It is my honor and privilege to announce that President Barack Obama is joining us on the trail in Detroit on Saturday, October 24. Get. Ready.”
El-Sayed wrote on Monday, “It is my honor and privilege to announce that President Barack Obama is joining us on the trail in Detroit on Saturday, October 24. Get. Ready.”
The event will take place on October 24, the same day that statewide early voting starts in Michigan. “Everything is on the line this year: a U.S. Senate seat, an open governor's race, and the leaders who will protect our rights and protect our elections for years to come. These races will be decided by who shows up, and this is our moment to bring it home,” the event description states.
“Come get fired up, hear from our candidates, and leave ready to get out the vote for Democrats up and down the ballot. Then make your plan to vote early, and bring your friends and family with you,” it adds. Also featured at the event is Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, who is running for governor.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris had appeared alongside El-Sayed in a late September event focusing on black maternal health. Harris said at the event, “Remember, the Senate seat is six years. So let’s think about that in the lives of all the people that the leaders here serve, and the good work that can happen over the course of those years, because of the power and the strength of Abdul and that Senate seat.”
“So I sat next to the senator from Michigan, and I have some sense then of the role that the senator, a senator from Michigan, occupies. It’s a very important one,” Harris said. “His will be a voice, Abdul’s, that is a voice representing the people of this state, and it will be a national voice.”
Obama has filmed dozens of ads in the last week for Democrat candidates across the country that will be released in the coming weeks, per the Associated Press, and will appear at additional yet-to-be-announced campaign stops.
In the midterm cycle, Obama has appeared in a campaign ad for Iowa Senate candidate Josh Turek and campaigned in Texas for Senate candidate James Talarico and Gina Hinojosa.
