A Toronto-area music teacher has been charged in connection with a child pornography investigation.

Halton Police say that an investigation was launched in April after tips that a man was allegedly sharing child sexual abuse material.

Police announced on Friday that Carmen Gassi, 70, has been charged with two counts of possessing child pornography and making child pornography available.

Gassi taught at White Oaks Secondary School as a music teacher for 16 years. Though he is retired, police say that he fills in as a temporary teacher from time to time.

Gassi is also the musical director at High Rendition Jazz, a music program in the Halton area.

Earlier this year in April, an investigation revealed evidence of an Ontario choir professor engaging in sexual misconduct with a student. That same month, a Manitoba school teacher was charged with sexual assault against a minor.

Police are asking anyone with information about the investigation to contact investigators at 905-464-8983 or 905-465-8986. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
