When watching a film owned by a political organization, your gut reaction is to expected a number of injected partisan narratives. As a film owned by The Daily Wire, I fully expected to see Ben Shapiro pop out and tell the enraged school shooters that facts don't care about their feelings. After watching the film, I can confidently say I didn't feel slapped in the face with any overt political messaging.

The film focuses itself around Zoe Hull (Isabel May), a jaded high school senior who is trying to get through her final weeks of school. A tragic past has made her close up and become cold to those near her, including her father (Thomas Jane).

Zoe's school is attacked by four nihilistic, gun-toting students. The motivation for the attack is not obvious, which is wise for the script, but the leader of the shooters demands that all the hostage students pull out their phones and livestream the event. The film makes the case that school shooters and perhaps the young generation at large, are obsessed with social media. The shooters rejoice in the number of people watching, all while holding students hostage in the school cafeteria. It seems they have a point to make.

Unfortunately for the shooters, Zoe is a hunter and knows how to kill an animal when she sees one. This is when the movie jumps into action. Many reviews for the film have pointed out that it is "Die Hard but with school shooters." This description is given to the film due to the fact that Zoe essentially uses various tools and traps around the school to kill the various shooters. There is also the hostage element and the unclear motivation. Regardless of whether the attribution is deserved, the film does visualize a number of highly creative action scenes.

Alongside Zoe making her way through the shooters, she is mentally plagued by her deceased mother. Played by Radha Mitchell, her mother is seen speaking to Zoe at various levels of her chemotherapy. The constant presence of her mother shines a light on Zoe's inner turmoil. Her inability to save her mother from her inevitable demise to cancer turns Zoe into a dynamic character that the audience wants to root for. She couldn't save her mother, but she could perhaps save the school from the world school shooting in history.

Without giving much more away, the film comes to a satisfying conclusion and addresses a lot of symbolic foreshadowing.

The film has seemingly attracted lots of controversy. Some of this controversy claims that it is in poor taste to produce a film around such a heavy topic as school shooters. There is also the fact that the film is very violent. Historically, movies made by conservatives tend to be very prudish. No naughty words, no blood, etc. This is one of the reasons why so many "conservative" films have no only failed, but have been widely cringed at. Run Hide Fight is not one of those movies.

If you think you want to sit down and watch a Ben Shapiro production of a good prudish conservative movie, this isn't it. It is not for kids.

Nonetheless, the topic of violence and school shooters do not seem to hold up as controversies, yet the Rotten Tomatoes score of this movie is heavily divided.

It is evidently clear that the film has been targeted for being owned by The Daily Wire. This is the true controversy. The Daily Wire has announced it is serious about getting into entertainment and plans to make more movies.

Ben Shapiro shared his own thoughts, stating, "so The Daily Wire will, in 2021, be jumping into the world of entertainment content. We’re going to be bringing out movies — edgy, entertaining, awesome movies that won’t mock your values. We’re going to be producing TV shows — comedies and dramas that take you seriously, and that don’t take advantage of your viewership to promote Leftist causes."

Run Hide Fight is an impressive debut for The Daily Wire's entertainment division. It's nothing entirely unique. It's a good old American Thriller, action packed with guns and explosions. Those of us who enjoy that sort of thing will enjoy this. Beyond the shootouts, there is an archetypal story about perseverance and letting go of things you cannot control. This element enriches the movie.

If you didn't already have a subscription to The Daily Wire before, their expansion into entertainment may make it worth the few dollars per month. So many of us already pay for Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, etc. It is ambitious and respectable that The Daily Wire is now entering that arena.

Run Hide Fight is now available to stream on The Daily Wire.
