If the government is telling you to stay home, they should send you $2,000 NOW

Among those previously unthinkable things is the government telling millions of Canadians to stay home.

And that is necessary.

However, telling people to stay home means telling people to lose income. Many people simply cannot do their job from home, meaning every stay-home order is also an order to lose money.

As a result, the government has a duty to send you money now.

The government asked you to stay home immediately, without delay. They are now even threatening more enforcement, including possible fines or even jail time for those who don’t listen to the stay-home orders.

With all of that in mind, we can realize that it is absurd to make people apply for government support at this time.

If you’re being told to stay home by the government, why should you have to apply for financial support when your financial problems were caused by the government order?

The fact is, the government needs to send you the money. It is that simple.

The government must immediately make direct deposits of $2,000 to every bank account they have on file, while sending cheques (heavily sterilized) to everyone else.

Now, some will say that not everyone needs the money, and that is 100 percent correct.

However, the issue here is speed.

Trying to means-test or figure out who needs it takes time, and right now we don’t have time.

People right now are unable to pay their rent. People have lost all their income, and are at risk of being unable to buy food and essential supplies.

The Canadian People can’t afford a delay.

So, send the money out now to get it in people’s hands ASAP!

Then, down the road, the money can be clawed back through taxes. For example, an extra $2,000 clawback can be added for those above a certain income, while other tax credits can be cancelled.

That can happen when the crisis is over, which will reduce the overall financial burden over time.

But that is a problem for another time.

Right now, the issue is that we need people to stay home to protect our healthcare system and avoid the collapse of that system. Right now, we need people who stay home to be able to still afford groceries and essential supplies.

As a result, the government must send money out to people immediately, and worry about the rest later.

While concerns about the debt and deficit are understandable, the debt and deficit will be even worse if millions of people can’t buy the essentials. That would mean more death, more suffering, more lost revenue for grocery stores and restaurants, and an even deeper crisis.

Additionally, the failure to get money to people now will mean more destabilization in society, with a surge of crime as hundreds of thousands of desperate people do whatever it takes to get what they need.

That’s why sending money to people now is the less costly option, because it will stop even worse things from happening.

Enough is enough.

The delays are unacceptable.

The government has already gotten tons of money to the banks without making them wait, and they must do the same for the Canadian People.
