Trudeau skips Scheer’s last day as Opposition Leader in House, repeating election night snub

Trudeau’s vacation continues, even as the House of Commons returns for a (very) rare sitting.

Trudeau already had a bunch of time off, considering that the NDP voted along with the Liberals to basically shut down Parliament over the summer, denying the Opposition and the Canadian people accountability as the Liberals spend vast amounts of our tax dollars.

But even that wasn’t enough for Trudeau.

Rather than make-do with the large number of days he has off, Trudeau is even skipping the rare sitting days, staying on vacation as the House returns.

This is more than just a snub of Canadians, it’s a disrespectful move towards Andrew Scheer. The Conservative leader is likely on his last day in the House of Commons in that role, since the Conservatives will have a new leader when the House returns later this month.

Regardless of political differences, it is usually the tradition to wish opponents well when they move on politically, especially from a high-profile role like Conservative leader.

After all, the Conservatives won more votes than the Liberals in the last election, so Trudeau could have done the bare minimum and showed up to say a few nice words about Scheer.

He didn’t. Instead, he stayed on his taxpayer-funded vacation.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Trudeau has snubbed the Opposition leader in that manner.

We remember on Election Day when—in total violation of precedent and tradition—Trudeau began his "victory" speech while Scheer was still talking, drawing all press coverage away from Scheer and towards himself.

After losing the popular vote, losing his majority, and nearly being defeated and pushed out of office, Trudeau couldn’t even show the bare minimum amount of respect for his opponent.

It was a "power move," from someone who had his grip of power dramatically weakened.

More than that, it shows the contempt Trudeau has not only for his opponents, but for the vast majority of Canadians who oppose him.

Trudeau feels no need to respect or acknowledge those who disagree with him, and he feels entitled to shut Parliament down and skip out on work.

All the while, with Canadians struggling amid a severely damaged economy, with more and more people wondering how to make ends meet, Trudeau keeps on collecting a paycheque regardless of whether he does any work or not.

It’s a disgrace.
