Trudeau’s legacy: Humiliation, weakness, and an abandonment of our values

Selling out and get nothing in return is a total disaster. That’s what we are seeing with the China policy of the Trudeau government.

Selling out to achieve a result is never a good thing.
That said, it can at least be somewhat accepted if that result is worth it. But when you sell out, and get nothing in return, it’s a total disaster. And that’s what we are seeing with the China policy of the Trudeau government.
The ongoing weakness of the Trudeau government towards China has included the following:
The only real defence for all of that was to avoid ‘antagonizing China’ in order to secure the return of the two Michaels.
Even that of course is dangerous, since changing our policy in response to China kidnapping two innocent Canadian Citizens will only embolden further such actions by China.
But now, even that has failed.
China is putting the two Michaels on trial, with Michael Spavor’s show trial lasting just two hours, with Canadian officials and the media completely barred from the proceedings, and the verdict not yet announced.
Michael Kovrig will be tried on Monday.
The Chinese judicial system is really nothing more than extension of the political will of the Chinese Communist Party, and is not at all independent.
With a conviction rate of over 99, most people are pretty sure what the outcome of the ‘trials’ will be.
So, if the Liberal government was going weak on China to try and get a different result for the two Michaels, they failed.
In effect, we looked weak, sold out, abandoned our values, and emboldened further mistreatment, all for nothing.
This has been the legacy of the Trudeau government’s policy towards China.
It has gotten Canada zero benefit whatsoever.
Even after the two Michaels were taken, the Trudeau government was played like suckers by China, buying into the ‘racism’ narrative to keep letting flights in from Wuhan, and shipping our PPE to China before Canada had to desperately scrounge for new supply.
And I won’t even mention the government partnering with China on a vaccine, an absolutely appalling move that was among the dumbest things we’ve seen from a Canadian federal government. No, I won’t mention that at all.
In short, the ‘legacy’ of the Trudeau government on China is humiliation, weakness, & an abandonment of our values.
