After 36 years of hosting Jeopardy, and a nearly two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, the world learned that one of our most beloved and well-recognized television personalities had passed away.
But Alex Trebek was far more than a unidimensional game show host. He was one of the most prolific television personalities of all time, a star in his own right, a volunteer and spokesman for countless charities, and a renowned philanthropist.
Given innumerable laurels as a result of his lengthy career and impassioned activism, the list of his achievements and the awards he received as a result are almost too numerous to name.
Throughout countless health struggles and his battle with cancer over the past two years Trebek refused to give up, filming his final season of Jeopardy only two weeks before his death.

Alex Trebek may have a star on the Hollywood and Toronto walks of fame, a Guinness world record, and the Order of Canada but in all aspects of his life he was the embodiment of kindness and humility and undoubtedly deserves to be counted among Canada's greatest.
