Former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has announced that he won't participate in the 2024 Republican National Convention if the nominee is former President Donald Trump during a Thursday interview.

On FOX6 News, correspondent Jason Calvi asked the former Wisconsin congressman where he would be for the upcoming Milwaukee convention, to which Ryan replied, "It depends on who the nominee is."

"I'll be here if it's somebody not named Trump," he added.

"You won't show up if it's Trump?," Calvi asked.

Ryan replied, "I'm not interested in participating in that, no."

"Even in Wisconsin?," the interviewer pressed, to which Ryan doubled down; "Even Wisconsin."

According to Ryan, if the GOP nominates Trump again, "we're going to lose."

"It's just that clear. We lost with him in '18, '20 and '22. We know this. He will cost us another election, so I'm just excited about somebody not named Trump," he continued. "There are great people running. I know them all. They're all pretty decent friends of mine, and so I think any one of these candidates that are thinking about getting in the race, if they get in the race, would be a great candidate."

"I think we're going to beat Joe Biden if we don't run Donald Trump," he added.

However, a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll provides evidence to the contrary, finding that registered voters prefer former Trump over Biden in 2024, with Trump garnering 48 percent support compared to Biden at 45 percent.

The poll's results show that among registered voters, 53 percent disapprove and 42 percent strongly disapprove when asked about "the way Joe Biden is handling his job as president." 91 percent of Republicans, 16 percent of Democrats, and 51 percent of Independents said they disapprove.

During his interview, Ryan also blew off any theories that he might run for congress again.

"No, no, I'm done. I did 10 terms in Congress. I am done running for Congress. I'm not going to do that again," he said.
