In the wake of Tuesday’s primary elections in Texas, which resulted in current Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Senator John Cornyn moving forward to a runoff election, Paxton has said that he will not drop out, regardless of whether he receives President Trump’s endorsement.

Speaking with Just The News, Paxton said that it was a "pretty unusual thing to take on an incumbent and actually do well against them," adding that he could only think of two cases in the last four years. "We’re going to do really well in the runoff," he said.

Just The News’ John Solomon told Paxton, "President Trump said he’s going to make an endorsement, whoever he does endorse should drop out. I have a funny feeling you don’t drop out under any circumstance."

Paxton replied, "No, I’m staying in this race. I owe it to the people of Texas. I spent a year of my life campaigning against John Cornyn because John has not represented the people of Texas well."

He said of Cornyn, "He sided with Joe Biden on Second Amendment restrictions. He sided with Joe Biden on bringing Afghan refugees to settle here without vetting them. But he's been against Trump in both of his elections, said he shouldn't run last time, that his day had passed, and of course, he fought him on the border wall. He's been an amnesty guy. Everything that Trump stood for, John Cornyn’s fought." He added that the "people in Texas, at least the Republicans, would like something different."

Trump wrote on Wednesday regarding the Texas race, "The Republican Primary Race for the United States Senate in the Great State of Texas, a State I LOVE and won 3 times in Record Numbers (the HIGHEST vote ever recorded, by far!!!), cannot, for the good of the Party, and our Country, itself, be allowed to go on any longer. IT MUST STOP NOW!"

"We have an easy to beat, Radical Left Opponent, and we have to TOTALLY FOCUS on putting him away, quickly and decisively! Both John and Ken ran great races, but not good enough. Now, this one, must be PERFECT! My Endorsements within the Republican Party have been virtually insurmountable! It is such an honor to realize and say that almost everyone I Endorse WINS, and wins by a lot, especially in Texas! I will be making my Endorsement soon, and will be asking the candidate that I don’t Endorse to immediately DROP OUT OF THE RACE! Is that fair? We must win in November!!!"
