While filming in New York City’s Washington Square Park on Sunday evening, following the city’s Pride celebrations, photojournalist and The Post Millennial contributor NJEG Media was attacked, with someone smashing a bottle on the back of his head.

"I was filming a fight that broke out while police were starting to clear the area. A person got thrown into me and knocked me down, as soon as I hit the ground someone came up behind me and smashed a large bottle over my head. Then my camera was stolen in the process," NJEG Media told The Post Millennial.

He believes that the attack was "random," but was also "intentional."

Leeroy Johnson, also known as Viral News NYC, captured video of the aftermath, showing NJEG Media bleeding from the back of the head. He told The Post Millennial that NJEG Media would remain at the hospital for at least 5 days, and that when he went to help him up, he also had bottles thrown at him.

"We were both filming a fight in Washington Square Park. a woman who was involved in the fight fell on him, then what looked like the woman's friend hit him over the head with a bottle.  As I was trying to help him, bottles were also thrown at me. I rushed him out the park to police safety," Johnson told The Post Millennial.

Leading up to the attack, he had been covering a Pride gathering in Greenwich Village’s Washington Square Park, where thousands of Pride goers had gathered after the city’s parade.

At one point, the crowd fled from the park, claiming that shots had been fired. Police were seen responding to the area, and it is believed that the stampede was caused by fireworks.

Later in the evening, one person was taken to the hospital after they were stabbed in the arm and chest in Washington Square Park.

Shortly before NJEG Media was attacked, he had been covering the New York City Police Department’s move to break up parties in the streets and park.
