Police are investigating after a toddler was left in locked car in Mississauga on Tuesday as temperatures soared near record highs.

Police are investigating after a toddler was left in locked car in Mississauga on Tuesday as temperatures soared near record highs.

CP 24 reports that: "police responded to reports of a child left inside a car at a parking lot on Tranmere Drive, near Derry and Dixie roads."

A police officer smashed the window of the car, a white sedan, in order to free the child.

Paramedics say that the toddler was in the car for at least 30 minutes. The child was sweating but still conscious.

The child was transported to hospital in non-life threatening condition. The officer sustained minor injuries.

CP 24 also reports that there "is no information on the whereabouts of the parents or caregivers."

Mississauga was expecting a record high of 33 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

No charges have been laid as of yet.
