POLL: Doctors say hydroxychloroquine ‘most effective’ coronavirus treatment

A poll made up of thousands of doctors worldwide has rated hydroxychloroquine as the best treatment against the COVID-19 virus.

Over 6,200 physicians were surveyed in over 30 countries, with 37 percent reporting that hydroxychloroquine is “most effective therapy” against the potentially fatal virus.

The survey, which was released Thursday, was conducted by Sermo, a global health care polling company. The poll also found that only 23 percent of US doctors had prescribed hydroxychloroquine in the US—far less than countries like Spain, where over 70 percent of doctors had used it.

“Outside the US, hydroxychloroquine was equally used for diagnosed patients with mild to severe symptoms whereas in the US it was most commonly used for high risk diagnosed patients,” said the survey.

The drug gained some notoriety after an American couple supposedly drank "chloroquine" with one of them dying. It turned out that they had actually drank a deadly fish tank cleaner that was not for human consumption.

US President also touted the drug, calling it a "game-changer."

The World Health Organization says there is "no evidence" that medicine prevents or cures coronavirus.

Sermo CEO Peter Kirk said that the polling results were a “treasure trove of global insights for policymakers.”

“Physicians should have more of a voice in how we deal with this pandemic and be able to quickly share information with one another and the world,” he said in a press release.

Additionally, a small New York community doctor named Zev Zelenko has been in contact with President Trump's chief of staff regarding a drug cocktail he has used on patients with some success.
