" The Biden administration is enforcing immigration laws. In fact, the administration has been so heavy-handed in recent months that I have serious concerns about how they are conducting border enforcement."

On Thursday, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) claimed that the Biden administration is being “heavy-handed” on illegal immigrants despite a crisis at the US Southern Border and illegal border crossing records continuing to be broken month after month thanks to the White House’s lax immigration policies.

Jayapal said during an immigration subcommittee hearing, “There is so much fear-mongering going on that it is difficult to know exactly where to start. But let me say this, first, the Biden administration is enforcing immigration laws. In fact, the administration has been so heavy-handed in recent months that I have serious concerns about how they are conducting border enforcement.

The antisemitic congresswoman then pivoted to attacking Republicans, alleging, “This hearing is supposed to distract the American people from the fact that my Republican colleagues have absolutely no accomplishments to run on. Once again, they are trying to scapegoat immigrants by making claims about undocumented immigrants’ use of social services,” according to the Washington Examiner.

The progressive Squad member claimed studies that have “proven that the US economy is driven by immigrants, both documented and undocumented.”

"The idea that our economy is hurt by immigrants in any way is an absurd, factually inaccurate talking point from extreme MAGA Republicans," Jayapal wrote on X, adding in a separate post, "It is beneficial to them to use immigrants as a political football to rile up their base with hateful rhetoric, all while they sit here and complain that we aren’t getting anything done."

As a ranking member of the committee, Jayapal alleged that House Republicans are “obsessed” with pushing a resolution to enhance security at the border in HR 2, which she called “cruel, extreme” and claimed it won’t be effective in “actually solving the problem.”

The legislation bill would resume construction on the border wall, limit asylum eligibility, and add penalties for overstaying visas, among other policies. It has already passed the House but is unlikely to pass the Democratic-controlled Senate.

As the chair of the Progressive Caucus, Jayapal was mocked for the absurdity of the comments.

Last month alone over 276,000 illegal immigrants came across the US-Mexico border in addition to the over 7 million who have entered the country illegally since Biden was sworn into office, the most ever recorded in any administration.
