President Joe Biden declared that he will run for re-election in 2024 so long as he remains "in good health." Biden's mental and physical health has been a topic of discussion since the presidential election, with many questioning whether or not he is capable of fulfilling the role of president of the United States.
As Americans look ahead to 2024, many were preparing themselves to see a new face leading the Democrat Party. Even CNN compiled a list of potential replacements for Biden, citing his "age and recent struggles."
In a recent interview with ABC, however, Biden announced that he intends to run for re-election, so long as his health remains stable.
When asked by ABC's David Muir about his plans for 2024, Biden said he plans on running, adding that the prospect of facing off against former President Doanld Trump, a prospective Republican challenger, makes it even more tempting.
"I'm a great respecter of fate," Biden said during the ABC interview. "Fate has intervened in my life many, many times. If I'm in the health I'm in now – I'm in good health – then, in fact, I would run again."
While there has been speculation from outside the White House that Biden would be a one-term president, those on the inside adamantly believe he will run again.
In early December, for example, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that Biden has "every intention of running for re-election."
