Progressives demand Amazon remove Matt Walsh's 'Johnny The Walrus' from top of LGBTQ category

"Me becoming a number one bestselling LGBT author is the twist no one saw coming," wrote Walsh.

Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire wrote a children’s book about a kid pretending to be a walrus where internet activists pressure the family into trying to make that identity permanent for the rest of his life.

Pre-orders for Johnny the Walrus on Amazon have topped the charts for the LGBTQ+ section – and leftist groups are angry about that success.

The LGBT group GLADD signal boosted Brennan Suen of Media Matters who claimed that the book is "anti-trans" and that its author Walsh is running a grift.

"It is absolutely not an LGBTQ book. It specifically targets transgender people with hateful and dehumanizing rhetoric." In a follow-up remark earlier today, Suen told Walsh that his problem with the book is that it’s "mislabeled."

"The success of the book proves that people are tired of the children’s book market being dominated by left-wing propaganda," Matt Walsh told The Daily Wire.

Walsh isn't the first right-winger to enter the space. Political commentator Ashley St. Clair wrote a kids book with a similar premise called "Elephants Are Not Birds."

A counter to the claim made by progressive activists is Matt Walsh’s read along video. The Daily Wire podcaster read Johnny the Walrus to a group of school children.

The plot of the book is that Johnny pretended to be a walrus and his mother thought it was entertaining enough to post on social media. The "internet people" then launch a campaign saying that being a Walrus is Johnny’s actual identity, and they urge the mother to take the child to a doctor to begin the transition process.

Pink News said that this particular page where the doctor claims he has to cut Johnny’s feet into fins is "twisted."

Johnny is shown having a difficult time being forced to have wooden spoons in his mouth, wear grey make-up, and eat worms. The mother is pressured to go along with it until when she takes Johnny to the zoo, and a zookeeper tells her to ignore what the activists say online.

Whether or not Amazon will listen to the moral of Matt Walsh’s children’s story remains to be seen.
