A group of prominent Ontario MPPs has attacked the Trudeau government for their failure to procure vaccines while keeping borders open from hotspot countries.
Progressive Conservatives Prabmeet Sarkaria and David Piccini have both released videos on their social media that call on the government to tighten COVID border control.
"We must stop flights from COVID hotspot areas now," wrote Piccini.
"The 'double mutant variant' has entered Canada. It didn’t fly itself here," he continued. "Strong action is needed now from our Federal Government to secure our borders."
This message accompanied a video that showed the extent of the problem: "Since April, more than 100 international flights landing in Canada have carried at least one positive COVID case on board."
Sarkaria's statement, on the other hand, called on the Trudeau government to "ban flights from hot spot countries immediately!"
"We must secure our borders," added the MPP for Brampton South.
Justin Trudeau has continued to resist closing the border between COVID hotspots and Canada during Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday.
Despite his refusal to close down the border, the prime minister continued to say he believes in vaccines and science.
India, for instance, has recently had a deadly surge of COVID cases, yet their flights have continued to arrive in Canada. One flight from Delhi had several infected people on board.
Trudeau recently said that Canada has some of the strongest border measures and that existing measures have been "extremely effective."
"We are continuing to look at more and I have asked our officials to look carefully at, for example, what the UK has done very recently on suspending flights from India," said Trudeau earlier this week.
In spite of these comments, Trudeau is yet to take any action.
