In a poll on X, users overwhelmingly support Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) to be the next leader of the US Senate.

In a post on the platform, Paul asked, "Who would you like to be the next Senate leader?" along with the poll which had himself, John Thune, and John Cornyn as the options.

The poll closed at 12:01 pm Saturday with 178,283 votes and showed that 96.6 percent of respondents chose Sen. Paul as their choice.

Elon Musk even threw support to Paul in a post on Friday, saying, "I would support Rand Paul and suspect that other candidates will not actually run polls out of concern for the results, but let’s see if they will!"

On Saturday morning, Paul quote posted the poll to tell his supporters that it was ending soon. He joked, "Unless you live in PA where election dates are arbitrary or CA where extra time is allocated to receive mail in ballots from Mexico."

The poll was posted on Friday, just after Paul had revealed that "Thousands of people have been asking if I'd run for Senate leadership..."

Elon Musk simply responded with, "Sure."

Country music star John Rich vowed to hold a fundraiser for Paul if he ran. "I'd hold a fundraiser for you in Nashville if you'd toss your name into the ring," he said.

"You and [Sen Ron Johnson] are the only two I've seen who have bird dogged Fauci, the CDC, NIH, FDA and the WHO since the onset.," he added. "I support fighters."

Last month, Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell announced that after nearly 20 years of holding the position, he was stepping down after this term. According to McConnell's aides, the news is not related to his health or the issues the 82-year-old has had with freezing up during press appearances.

"As I have been thinking about when I would deliver some news to the Senate, I always imagined a moment when I had total clarity and peace about the sunset of my work," McConnell said in a statement. "A moment when I am certain I have helped preserve the ideals I so strongly believe. It arrived today."

Currently, the Democrats hold the Majority in the Senate, and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) holds the position of the majority leader.
