Registered child sex offender hired by Illinois mayor to perform home inspections for city

Once it was revealed that Redmond is a registered child sex offender, residents in the community were outraged by the hire.

The Mayor of Dolton, Illinois hired a registered child sex offender to be a code enforcement officer tasked with inspecting homes and businesses.

Lavelle Redmond (46) spent 24 years in prison after pleading guilty for participating in the brutal gang rape and beating of two underage girls.

Redmond, along with three others kidnapped and sexually assaulted two girls, ages 13 and 14, in the Roseland neighborhood in 1991, according to FOX 32 News.

Redmond is a registered child sex offender listed on the Illinois State Police child sex offender registry.

Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard hired Redmond to go into Dolton homes and businesses to perform inspections on behalf of the city. Once it was revealed that Redmond is a registered child sex offender, residents in the community were outraged by the hire.

"I will be terrified to know now if he had come to my house to do a code inspection," a resident told FOX 32. "I'll be terrified."

"Oh my god. Don't they supposed to do background checks before they allow these people to in these kind of positions?" another resident said.

A spokesperson for the office of Mayor Henyard said they are conducting an investigation into the hire and insisted that they are taking matters seriously, FOX 32 reports.
