Footage of United CEO Scott Kirby has gone viral online after it was revealed that the business leader liked to perform as a drag queen in his free time.
The video shows Kirby, donning a silver dress, blonde wig, and heels, crawling off the stage and dancing to Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. The video of the US Airways Halloween performance was posted to YouTube in 2010, during which time Kirby was president of the airline company. The company merged with American Airlines in 2015.
The video of Kirby performing a routine to Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" surfaced after being posted by Libs of TikTok on X.
It was discovered that Kirby liked engaging in drag during his free time after video of him advocating for DEI quotas for "women or people of color" that would make up half of the pilot class.
"We have committed that 50 percent of the classes will be women or people of color," Kirby boasted. ""Today only 19 percent of our pilots at United Airlines are women or people of color... And by the way, from all the data I've seen, that's the highest of any airline in the country."
During the viral clip, Kirby laments that too many of the pilots at the company were white men. When he was pressed on why the c-suite was largely made up of white men, he deflected and talked about the company's further commitment to DEI.
In addition to Kirby's drag, the company has appointed Maya Tallman, a trans-identifying male, as the head of United's DEI Committee.
Airlines have faced increased scrutiny over the past several weeks over their DEI measures. This included one report that the Federal Aviation Administration has been pushing for the recruitment of people with "severe intellectual" and "psychiatric" disabilities.
In addition, a panel blew off the side of a plane on an Alaska Airlines trip mid-flight and the company had to ground many flights in response. The model had been a Boeing 737 Max 9 and the criticisms of the plane manufacturer with respect to DEI hiring took place in response.
Elon Musk posted a picture of multiple DEI policies at Boeing and commented, "Do you want to fly in an airplane where they prioritized DEI hiring over your safety? That is actually happening."
