Mayor of College Park, Maryland Patrick Wojahn, the first openly gay man to serve in that role, was a mentee of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, it has been revealed.

Wojahn was arrested and charged with 40 counts of possession of child sexual exploitative material and 16 felony counts of distribution of child porn by local authorities and arrested last week in his Maryland home. The "gay activist Democrat," as described by Townhall's Mia Cathell had "branded himself as something of a role model for LGBTQ youth" and had been mentored by Buttigieg, who himself was once the mayor of small-town East Bend, Indiana.

47-year-old Wojahn had made several visits to the White House as an invited guest. On Twitter, several noted Wojahn's mentee relationship with Buttigieg and his appearances at the White House.

The last visit made to the White House by Wojahn and his husband was two months ago for a celebration of the Respect for Marriage Act being signed into law by Biden.

Authorities started investigating the former Maryland mayor, who resigned Thursday moments before his arrest, after a tip came in from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Their investigation led them to a Kik social media account, a platform often exploited by child pornographers, and they later discover the account, which contained child pornography, belonged to Wojahn. Police later seized a storage device, several cell phones, a computer, and a tablet from his residence all under the suspicion they contained child pornography.

Wojahn was on the city council between 2007 and 2015 when he was elected mayor.

Fox News reports more charges are expected in this case.

The University of Maryland is located in College Park and Denise Mitchell has taken over in the temporary role of mayor. Within 65 days, a special election will be held to elect a new mayor.
