Kash Patel, who was a top advisor during the former Trump administration, revealed during an interview Friday that the then-acting Attorney General Rod Rosenstein withheld "Russiagate" information on purpose and threatened to criminally investigate politicians who pursued the records.
The interview took place on Friday with the people of the popular podcast Washington Expose, and is found below in its entirety:
"We had a meeting in the SCIF [Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility], in the House Intelligence Committee space with Devin Nunes, Rod Rosenstein, Christopher Wray, and a bunch of other people to say, 'Look, give us the documents. It’s going to be embarrassing, we think, for the Department of Justice and the FBI. But that’s not a reason to not disclose it.'"
"You know what Rod Rosenstein did in that meeting? He threatened to investigate me and Devin Nunes criminally!"
"And he threatened to subpoena us. I don’t know how this Attorney General thought that was a natural thing you can do to Congress."
The "Russiagate" scandal, in which the FBI thoroughly investigated former Presdient Donald Trump before and after he was elected president for alleged "collusion" with the Russian government, has now been discredited.
Patel goes on to put forth what he considers to be a specific example of Rosenstein's arrogance and incompetence, mentioning his ignorance of basic concepts necessary to properly performing his duties as acting Attorney General:
"The guy [Rosenstein] who was basically the Attorney General during the first couple of years of the Trump administration … We [Nunes and Patel] were in his office following up on our subpoenas and our document requests, and the guy did not know what a FISA was. I had to explain it to him."
Patel here is referring to a FISA warrant, which is a warrant issued by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, created by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. These warrants are issued in furtherance of investigations of individuals suspected of working with foreign governments against United States interests.
Patel then goes on to mention another important connection, between his ex-colleague on the National Security Council, Fiona Hill, and the recently-indicted Russian national Igor Danchenko, who is accused of knowingly misleading government authorities and lying to the FBI.
Patel, former chief of staff of the Acting United States Secretary of Defense and a senior official with Trump's National Security Council, also recently brought to public attention Biden's attempts to try and put the blame on others for the disastrous withdrawal of US troops from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
