On Sunday, former NCAA University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines slammed San Francisco State University after the college released a statement saying their students "peacefully protested" on their campus Thursday night in an event that saw Gaines violently assaulted during a Turning Point USA event.

"I'm sorry did this just say PEACEFUL," Gaines said. "I was assaulted. I was extorted and held for random. The protestors demanded I pay them if I wanted to make it home safely. I missed my flight home because I was barricaded in a classroom... We must have different definitions of peaceful."

The Daily Mail reports the school's Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management, Jamillah Moore, sent an email to students that was later posted online that read, "Today, San Francisco State finds itself again at the center of a national discussion regarding freedom of speech and expression. Let me begin by saying clearly: the trans community is welcome and belongs at San Francisco State University. Further, our community fiercely believes in unity, connection, care and compassion, and we value different ideas, even when they are not our own."

"Thank you to our students who participated peacefully in Thursday evening’s event," the statement continued. "It took tremendous bravery to stand in a challenging space. I am proud of the moments where we listened and asked insightful questions. I am also proud of the moments when our students demonstrated the value of free speech and the right to protest peacefully. These issues do not go away, and these values are very much at our core."

Gaines spoke on Thursday night at a TPUSA event speaking out for women's rights. After her speech a group of students entered the classroom where she had been speaking and turned off the lights.

She was then attacked and had to be escorted out of the room and into another, where she was trapped for three hours. As Gaines was led away from the mob by security a woman screamed at her "You cryin? You f*ckin cryin bitch?"

Gaines filmed the activists, and posted the footage to Twitter.

Speaking to Fox News on Saturday, Gaines said she will be "pursuing legal action" after her assault Thursday night.
