The Supreme Court of Texas has ordered that Shelley Luther be released from Dallas County jail today, following her arrest for breaking state social distancing protocols by reopening her beauty salon prior to official reopen orders from the state.
Attorney General Ken Paxton posted a tweet today of the state's official Supreme Court ruling.

“The Texas Supreme Court correctly addressed Ms. Luther’s excessive punishment and unnecessary jailing. No Texan should face imprisonment for peacefully resisting an order that temporarily closed a lawful business and drastically limited their ability to provide for their family through no fault of their own,” said Paxton.
“Throwing Texans in jail who have had their businesses shut down through no fault of their own is nonsensical, and I will not allow it to happen,” said Texas Governor Greg Abbott the day after the ruling.
The news comes after much outrage was met with the arrest of Dallas salon owner, Shelley Luther. Luther was arrested after she vowed not to close down her salon upon the official order.

Luther was previously told that if she was to apologize and and admit that she was wrong, she could avoid jail time and simple pay a fine. However she refused and was sentenced to a $7,000 fine and sent to serve one week in a Dallas County jail.
"Feeding my kids is not selfish. If you think the law is more important than kids getting fed, then please go ahead with your decision, but I am not going to shut the salon.” Luther explained to the judge.
Since then a GoFundMe page was created to help raise money for her family and employees, quickly garnering over $500,00 in donations.
