On Sunday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) spoke at the Student Action Summit led by Turning Point USA and the Republican senator had very harsh words for several of his Democrat colleagues in Congress over the left's pro-communism sentiments.
Cruz pointed out that all of the progressive lawmakers who are so critical of America and such fans of Cuba's communist regime have always done so safely from within United States territory. According to the Daily Wire, Cruz told the crowd: "Ronald Reagan said years ago the thing the Left never seems to understand is the Berlin Wall that divided East Germany from West Germany. The Berlin Wall, the machine guns all point in one direction."
"The analogy I'm fond of using as a Cuban-American is the thing that liberals never seem to understand if you go down to Key West, is the rafts are only going one direction," Cruz pivoted. "Just once I want to see some left-wing socialist ... I want to see [Sen.] Bernie Sanders, I want to see [Sen.] Elizabeth Warren, I want to see AOC [Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] go down to Key West, get on a raft, and sail 90 miles south to the socialist paradise."
Cruz said that the left's "ideas don't work; tyranny doesn't work; freedom is powerful." Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has gone on record as speaking positively about Cuba's authoritarian regime previously, with statements such as: "Do I support the economic policies or their political policies? Of course, I don't. But you know what else? Cuba produces a lot of physicians … They go to poor countries around the world doing a lot of good."
"...By and large, Cuba's educational system, for a poor country, is pretty good. When Castro came to power, they did a lot to eliminate illiteracy in that country."
Ocasio-Cortez, an infamous member of the congressional "Squad," has also been a popular champion of what she and Sanders call "democratic socialism," and a vocal critic of capitalism, which she calls "dystopian."
