Less than one day after converting, King announced a multi-city speaking tour with $1,000 VIP tickets.
King, 44, was slated to be the keynote speaker at a Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) event in Minneapolis on Thursday but the branch disinvited him following mass backlash on social media, the Daily Mail reports.
"We have heard concerns expressed by our community regarding Shaun King being the keynote at our annual iftar fundraiser," CAIR Minneapolis said in a statement on X.
"We have made the decision to not have Shaun King as the keynote speaker for our upcoming annual fundraising dinner. This has become a distraction from the sole purpose of our event, to support the work of protecting and advancing the civil liberties of Muslims in Minnesota," the group said.
After King and his spouse became Muslims "in solidarity" with Palestine, he was accused by others of exploiting Islam as a political grift.
Less than one day after converting, King announced a multi-city speaking tour with $1,000 VIP tickets.
Individuals on social media took immediate issue with King's conversion and encouraged the organization to cease its relationship with the "scam artist."
"Do not let CAIR be tainted by association with this grifter," one user wrote on X.
"People familiar with his history know he's a prolific scam artist. I wouldn't associate with him, especially for any fundraiser," another added.
At one of the San Diego events, basic entry is $75; VIP entry is $200; and VIP+ entry is an astounding $1,000.
King stated that all revenue would go toward supporting Palestinian causes.
