"I’ve been dealing with these storms in Florida under both Trump and Biden, neither of them ever politicized it."
While speaking to the media after Harris accused him of playing political games with people’s for not taking her phone calls, DeSantis said, "I am working with the president of the United States. I'm working with the director of FEMA [Federal Emergency Management Agency]. I’m marshalling all my state assets. We've been doing this now nonstop for over two weeks between Helene and [Milton].”
DeSantis recounted that he has been able to work well with both Trump and Biden in order to solve issues during hurricane seasons but added that Harris is only reaching out for the first time.
"[Harris] has no role in this process. I’ve been dealing with these storms in Florida under both Trump and Biden, neither of them ever politicized it," DeSantis added. "All the storms I've dealt with under this administration. Although I've worked well with the president, [Harris] has never called Florida. She has never offered any support.”
The Florida governor added, "I don't have time for those games. I don't care about her campaign. Obviously, I'm not a supporter of hers, but she's not, she has no role in this process. And so, I'm working with the people I need to be working with." The back-and-forth comes after President Joe Biden commented that DeSantis has been gracious in his handling of the hurricanes.
"All I can tell you is I’ve talked to Governor DeSantis," Biden said this week. "He's been very gracious. He thanked me for all we've done. He knows what we're doing, and I think that's important." DeSantis, meanwhile, said on Tuesday that all his federal requests for more support have been answered.
