Multiple sources close to the Prime Minister say that he indents to make an announcement on Sunday that he will call a snap election for Sept. 20 2021.
It has been commonly thought that the elections would be called before the end of 2021, but on Thursday, four separate sources within the government told the media about the supposed forthcoming announcement.
According to the Reuters, Trudeau's Liberal Party wants to roll the dice two years before the lawful deadline for a new election, as they possibly feel that now is their best chance to do so.
There are those who feel that Trudeau believes it to be in the best interest of his party to hold elections as soon as possible, although calling such an early election is not very often heard of in a Parliamentary system in general.
The as-of-now anonymous sources mentioned that Trudeau has a meeting scheduled for Aug. 15 in the morning with Governor General Mary Simon to request that Parliament be dissolved and new elections called.
The Liberal party has also pushed for extended measures to make voting easier for people, including more mail-in ballot options and even an option to vote over the phone.
The current government headed by Trudeau is a Liberal minority, which naturally means that the government constantly has to broker deals with other parties in order to get bills through Parliament.
